SF Bay Sound Map
The San Francisco Bay Area Sound Map was designed and launched by ethnomusicologist Christina Zanfagna, electronic musician Bruno Ruviaro, and web developer Max Stein in 2015. The map offers an interactive platform and historical archive for the soundscapes of the Bay Area.
Sound maps instigate and facilitate the documentation of sounds, sound stories, understories, urban lore, and more generally sonic experiences that are usually “off the map” or “out of sight.” In addition to exploring the social, political, and ethical implications of mapping sounds, we encourage users to experience recording and listening as a creative and compositional act.
